The Website.

The website has successfully done what i set out for it to do, It operates as a means of contacting both ourselves and the artists further it allows the download of fullscale images documenting the work of the artists as well as documenting the shows and providing a an overview of that show with the artist statments and either a working gif file that is on a loop of the work that was exhibited oor an embedded video form the youtube channel.

I think this website works more successfully than the last its much more clean cut and has "artsy" look and feel about it i think the only issue ive had with it is interface problems with Safari, at points the safari wouldn't accept the coding however i've managed to resolve this issue and updated the coding for it to be accesible through all web browsers as well as mobile devices.

Below are the screen shots documenting the website

The Archive

The archive documents all the work that has been presented at VIBE as well as the documents produced by VIBE providing a complete and thoruough outlook of VIBEs' progress and the varied nature of the work that has been presented, the VIBE archive shows photographic evidence that are sealed within envelopes which are then placed inside storage boxes. Giving each artist an individual box, allowing for the prospect for them to show again. The VIBE archive also will hold all the documents produced by VIBE including all artist statements and all show releases.

My contribution to each of these shows has not only been work and selecting the pieces, it has also been the installation of the mobile art gallery which in these cases has been used as:

A dark space:

A performance space

An exhibition space

An archive space

‘Cavern’

The major influence in my work is nature. This work is influenced by a recent documentary I watched about Ice Caves underneath a volcano in the North Pole. Where the hot steam from the volcano meets the cold air from outside, beautiful and unique crystals and icicles are created.

I wanted to combine this with another inspiration closer to home- The ‘Lost in Lace’ exhibition at the Gas Hall in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This exhibition had a big effect on me, showing how artists can collaborate in many different ways. I also loved the huge extravagance of the pieces, and the effects they have on the space.

Chloe Hodge

‘Helen at sea.’ Relief Prints.

This series of prints derive from stills taken from an 8mm film. The year is 1951 and the figure is a girl aged seven. The figure is taken out of context and away from the people that surround her to evoke ideas of loneliness and isolation, even within a family unit. This image is printed delicately onto ochre paper to reflect the fragility of memory and to echo the sepia tones of its filmic origin.

I am currently working with a series of 8mm films made by family members of mine; exploring the relationships between people I had always assumed I knew and lives I’d thought I understood.

Claire Pollard

I have been studying street photography for 5 months now and am constantly inspired by what surrounds me. There is so much to notice when you are in public and surrounded by so many things. I have many inspirations, Garry Winogrand and Philip - Lorca diCorica are two of many.

I have included four very different photographs. At the beginning I concentrated on street scenes, groupings that looked appealing. After experimenting I decided to focus my work more and concentrate on peoples faces, as portraiture on the street. It was scary and people would look at me very strangely, but it was also exciting to explore people’s different emotions and expressions. I am still exploring portraiture on the street but have now looked at shadows and playing with light. Depending on when I shoot I am able to create different images. I like the irony of it being sunny but cold outside, people are wrapped up warm but the photographs feel warm because of the light. It gets dark a lot earlier now giving me the chance to play around with light in the dark. I use the camera to paint with light. Although people may look at them and think there is no definition or way of this being street photography, for me there is. In some of my images you can just about see people and in others they are blocked by darkness and light.

As VIBE was the host to this piece i wanted it to be reviewed immediately and so had a select few of the audience members have a say, which was then uploaded on to the VIBE youtube channel as well as the webiste.

It would appear that if i were to repeat this experiment again i would approach a more broad range of individuals for the audience rather than known members that i interact with almost on a daily basis, thus removing the partnership between myself and them. I would also use select parts of the text that was written by the audience and apply them around the venue for all to see creating a more tense environment.

Initially i had asked the audience to fill in sheets that also had instructions. Allowing for feedback as well as a written documentation of VIBE 30/11/2011. However not all audience members did this, though this was not a requirement as discussed earlier it was a choice made of their own accord whether to participate.

What I found most interesting about these was the different variations to how people responded to the what they saw. Also I was able to pinpoint exactly when people had written their piece due to the comments made.
